S6 Enrollment is Coming! + Teacher Apps Closed

This is the moment we've been waiting for! The enrollment for AoH Semester 6 is coming up. That means prospective students have few things to take care of for your application. I copy pasted listed few bullet points for you to be aware, so read them carefully.

We are a school that teaches magic. It’s okay if your character doesn't know how to use magic, we will teach you!  The less magic you know, the better.

Why? It is better to start with a clean slate. Students who apply for the academy generally do not possess knowledge of magic higher than the refined tier. Instructing a student who already built their foundation from somewhere else is often strenuous and frustrating for both the student and the instructors, so the academy will generally turn away students that already practice more advanced magic. If you have any concerns about your character’s viability in the academy regarding their pre-existing abilities, please contact the staff!

This group is fantasy based with technology level of Industrial/Victorian era. Please dress and equip them accordingly.

Please be sure to use the latest version of the character sheet template when putting together your character sheet.

The class system, grading system, house points system, and graduation system have been revisited once again for this semester to make things more streamlined and interesting for all of you. More details coming soon.

We'll let you know of any new developments as it happens. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! (I promise none of us will bite you!...maybe.)

We plan to open up and start the enrollment process between Nov 23 - Nov 29. Until then, comment below with your character sheets and/or character design roughs for earlier approval and guidance.

There’s one more thing I’d like to personally address, and that is the matter of our actual staff.

Over the course of the last several months, a handful of us have been hard at work trying to rebuild this group. This isn’t just some sort of thing where we shout “REVAMP” over the megaphone to artificially resurrect the group activity with empty excitement that lasts for another 2 months before it dies again. The staff who have been working and reforging AoH’s ancient and (admittedly) broken system have been serious and dedicated to this task, and the very real work that comes with this sort of ambition has proven itself not to be for everyone. Needless to say, this work is also pushing the limits of what our current active staff can handle.

So basically, we’re hiring.

We’re looking for good artists to contribute to the workings of AoH. Not just good in quality of art but also in timeliness/consistency. Applicants should also have a consistent, reasonable amount of time to dedicate to AoH work. I know we’re all human and we all have lives and schedules, but if you’re going to be a staff member of AoH, you will actually contribute, not sit there and look pretty. We also have weekly staff chat meetings, so you’ll definitely be involved (time zones should be considered, but don’t let it stop you from applying). Treat this sort of like a job application. Treat this as if it were an actual job!

Please be mindful of how much you can realistically contribute to AoH, your time and art.
Please be mindful of how much you are realistically willing to contribute, whether your “passion” for this group is momentarily high or low.
And please be mindful of what your intentions are before you apply for this position: This is NOT an application for fame, popularity, or glory. Or for authority, or power, or a free pass to show off your super-awesome character which is better than all the students. This is not a secret circle to “get into” and win.

This is an application to be a servant. I don’t really know any better way to phrase this, but being in the AoH staff is dedicating yourself to serve this group and its many members, and all of its history and legacy.

This is the work to the fun of AoH.

-How active are you on deviantART?

-Do you have prior experience as a group mod/admin? If so, what group were you in? What tasks and responsibilities did you handle? If that was a past position, what circumstances caused you to leave?

-We have weekly group chat meetings during the weekends. What is your schedule like during the weekends?

-As an instructor, you will also need to be able to come up with classes that interest the students but also fit the context of Edenia’s world. Please give us an example of a class you might teach; you may pick any topic for your example. Explain what your class is, what the goal is, and how you plan to reach it. If possible, also provide some insight as to how that class contributes to AoH’s development. Please be mindful that we do have an updated magic system now, so it might help to refer to the magic system document for reference.

-Do you have experience with doing comics/serial illustrations? If so, please provide some examples. If you don’t have comic samples you are comfortable showing us, then show us a few pieces of your illustration work instead. Let us know about how long it takes to complete each work. Be honest!
